Rick Pitino is no stranger to big victories at Kentucky.

The former Wildcats men’s basketball coach won at the highest level in Lexington, capturing a national championship in 1996 and going 219-50 during his 8-year tenure there. The 72-year-old Pitino who’s now the head coach at St. John’s knows what winning with Big Blue looks like, so he wanted to give it up to Mark Stoops and the Kentucky football team on Saturday after its stunning upset of No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford.

“Incredible win for @UKFootball on the road. Big time,” wrote Pitino, shortly after the Stoops-led football team went into Ole Miss and took down the Rebels, 20-17, to hand them their 1st loss of the season.

Kentucky improved to 3-2 overall and picked up its 1st SEC win of the season after dropping its 1st 2 conference games. However, 2 weeks ago in Lexington, the Wildcats nearly toppled then-top-ranked Georgia, losing 13-12, so maybe Saturday’s shocker in Oxford wasn’t as shocking as many think.

Two weeks later, after almost beating Georgia, Kentucky got its huge upset of an SEC behemoth, taking the lead with 2:25 left in the game on a 2-yard touchdown run by Josh Kattus.

Ole Miss had 1 final chance to save face but missed a field goal with 48 seconds left, Kentucky survived, and Pitino took to social media to give the Wildcats a little love.
