Seth Greenberg appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday morning to discuss the latest news in college basketball. The ESPN analyst weighed in on John Calipari and what Kentucky should do entering next season in terms of roster construction.

Patrick made the point that in this day and age of college basketball, the so-called “one-and-done” players aren’t enough alone to win a national championship.

“That’s why he’s got to complement it in the portal,” Greenberg said. “He’s got to get Oscar Tshiebwe to come back, first and foremost, which I think he will end up coming back. But he’s gotta complement DJ Wagner and that recruiting class. He’s gotta complement them with juniors and seniors that will be great role players. Juniors and seniors in the portal that will basically coach their locker room. You’re only as good as your locker room. Whatever we do, you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with.”

Greenberg then pivoted to how UConn’s season unfolded one day after it won the national championship.

“You can’t win, I don’t think with 5 freshmen, you need veteran maturity, toughness, that can coach your locker room that when you go and lose 6 of 8,” he said, and added that one-and-done players in February aren’t thinking about a losing skid, but instead their upcoming NBA Draft workouts.
