CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso has a surprise No. 1 pick for the 2023 NFL Draft — Kentucky quarterback Will Levis.

With only 1 quarterback drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft — Pitt’s Kenny Pickett at No. 20 overall, 2023 will be much different. Trapasso has 7 quarterbacks being taken the first night. That includes Levis.

Levis and Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud are both projected to be drafted before Alabama’s Bryce Young. Trapasso projects that the Houston Texans will take Levis.

Writes Trapasso, “Levis feels like a quarterback who can eventually be the No. 1 overall pick. He’s big, chiseled, has a rocket for an arm and can scramble. The Texans will probably be in the quarterback market in a big way next offseason.”

In 13 games for Kentucky last year, Levis completed 233 passes of 353 attempts (66 percent) for 2,826 yards with 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also added 9 rushing touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 232-pound signal caller would be a surprise taken at No. 1 over both Young and Stroud.

Levis certainly has the arm, but he’s going to have to cut down on the interceptions while not having his top playmaker in Wan’Dale Robinson. He was tied with Florida’s Emory Jones for the most picks last season. Comparatively, Heisman Trophy winner Young threw 6 less interceptions with 194 more attempts.

Will the Kentucky quarterback live up to the hype in 2022?
