The one-and-done era is alive and well in Lexington.

The latest Wildcat to play for John Calipari for one season before jumping to the NBA will be Tyrese Maxey, who announced his decision to leave the school for the league on Monday.

Maxey appeared in 31 games for Kentucky last season, making 28 starts, and averaging 14 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game for the Wildcats. He registered a total of 433 points, 133 rebounds, 98 assists, 27 steals and 12 blocks last season for the Wildcats.

The freshman was named to the All-SEC Second Team (coaches) and to the SEC All-Freshman Team following his strong debut. Maxey was also named SEC Freshman of the Week on three different occasions.

The Texas native was the top-ranked prospect in Kentucky’s 2019 recruiting class and a top 10 overall prospect nationally in that cycle.
