What Bruce Pearl said about Kentucky following Auburn’s blowout loss to No. 4 Wildcats
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Saturday was not Auburn’s day against No. 4 Kentucky, and that’s being nice.
The Tigers went into Lexington and were blown out by the Wildcats to the tune of an 80-53 final score. After the game, coach Bruce Pearl didn’t have much to say about his team’s effort (or lack thereof).
He did, however, have some things to say about the Wildcats, who may move up in the polls after a 2-0 week. Here’s what Pearl said about Saturday’s performance by Kentucky:
On the Wildcats’ defensive effort:
Pearl says Auburn got "manhandled," calls Kentucky one of the best defensive teams in the country, says (like last meeting) that he recruited a bunch of Kentucky's players and knows they have a winning character. "Took a pretty good offensive team and made us look really bad."

On big man PJ Washington:
Bruce Pearl calls PJ Washington "National Player of the Year candidate WITHOUT QUESTION." Says he's big and physical enough to dominate rugged guys inside, skilled enough to burn perimeter players outside. And he knew Washington from high school, "so I've seen this."

On freshman PG Ashton Hagans:
Pearl on Hagans: "Ashton is such an unselfish player and always has been … has always gotten off on empowering his teammates … so he really never had to work on that 3-point game much … why would you be surprised, he's just worked on it."

The good news? The Tigers don’t have to play the Wildcats again. The bad news? They’re running out of time to move up the SEC standings.
