What John Calipari said after Kentucky's big season-opening win over Morehead State
The Kentucky Wildcats cruised to an easy season-opening victory over Morehead State on Wednesday night at Rupp Arena. The final score ended up being 81-45, but it wasn’t even that close.
Kentucky’s vaunted No. 1 2020 recruiting class lived up to expectations, accounting for 57 of the Wildcats’ 81 points. Transfers Olivier Sarr, Davion Mintz and Jacob Toppin also contributed in big ways.
After the game, coach John Calipari had plenty to say. Below, you can see his thoughts on the freshmen, the transfers, the atmosphere and where the Cats go from here:
"But we've got a ways to go. We gave up a lot of open shots that they missed."
"When he's in that frame of mind, Terrence does have the game come easy to him… he's learning, it's a new habit."

On if the cohesiveness, no scoring droughts surprises him:
"It really does… we look like an organized basketball team."
"When we start talking all these next games, I did these guys a disservice. I thought we'd have Keion for these games…"

On the atmosphere:
"Our university has done an unbelievable job. The kids are disciplined. It's incredible. Now, how do we do the same with fans. Is there a thing where we can test fans, to get 30% to come? I don't know. I've got to coach a basketball team. But today was fun."

Calipari:
"We look like an organized basketball team."
"I love what I saw from Cam today cause he just plays hard… Davion did what I wanted him to do."
"We gotta be a better rebounding team, but that will come with time."
