Ben Perry’s injury in Saturday night’s game at Clemson was very scary, so the Louisville football program is breathing a sigh of relief on Sunday after the safety’s tests all came back normal.
After the Cardinals’ stunning 33-21 upset of the No. 11 Tigers in Death Valley, Perry was able to fly back to Louisville with the team. He will continue to be evaluated by Louisville’s sports medicine staff this week.

The junior from Chicago suffered an unspecified injury late in the 1st quarter on Saturday night. Perry dove to make a tackle and got up. But then moments later, Perry fell back to the turf and spent several minutes laying on the field as trainers checked on him.
Perry was eventually helped off the field while he wore a neck brace. He was then taken in an ambulance to a local hospital.
ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden did say during the broadcast that Perry was “alert and talking” as he left the stadium. Perry later posted a celebratory message on Instagram after the Cardinals’ upset victory.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Perry has played in all 9 games this season for the 6-3 Cardinals, recording 19 tackles, 2 for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
Louisville has a bye this week, so perhaps Perry has a better chance to be back on the field on Nov. 16 when the Cardinals visit Stanford.
