New LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson has already landed a significant transfer as he looks to build his new roster. And it’s a familiar face.

Arizona slugger Jacob Berry announced on social media that, “due to recent changes, I am excited to play for Coach Johnson and I’m following him to the SEC… I am thankful for the good ppl and teammates at UA…wishing y’all the best! I’m also excited for the opportunity to wear the iconic purple/gold for LSU!”

LSU fans will be excited to learn that the freshman this past season hit .352 with 17 home runs and 70 RBIs in 2021. Those numbers led the Pac-12 in RBIs and extra-base hits. The corner infielder started 62 games for the Wildcats.

Berry is one of 19 UA players to recently enter the NCAA transfer portal, per D1Baseball.com. It’s unknown how many will head to LSU to play for Johnson, but it’s unlikely to be more than a handful, Tucson.com reported.
