Back on the trading block? Jamal Adams reportedly won't participate in Jets' offseason program
Jamal Adams’ future with the New York Jets once again seems uncertain.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the former LSU standout has let it be known that he won’t be participating in the team’s “voluntary virtual offseason program.” While missing a “voluntary” workout sounds like no big deal to the average fan, the news is leading to talk that Adams might be on the trading block.
Players are known to holdout from workouts as a negotiation tactic. It was established that Adams, entering Year 4 of his five-year rookie contract, is looking for a new long-term deal. If the Jets aren’t looking to give Adams a long-term contract, the club might trade him ahead of the upcoming draft. NJ.com’s Darryl Slater and Pro Football Talk’s Darin Gantt are among those bringing up the possibility of Adams playing elsewhere in the upcoming NFL season.
Adams is familiar with being on the trading block. He infamously ripped the Jets’ front office in October. In February, GM Joe Douglas said the plan was to make Adams a “Jet for life.”
When the NFL’s voluntary virtual off-season program opens this month, Jets’ All-Pro safety Jamal Adams is not expected to participate, per league sources. The Jets have not expressed any official interest in extending Adams thus far in the off-season, per source.
