Baseball America is out with its first Top 25 ranking of the season, and has 8 SEC teams in the mix, which leads the country.

Wake Forest is ranked No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25. It is the first time in the 44-year history of the Baseball America rankings that Wake has started the season ranked No. 1. The rankings are chosen by the staff of Baseball America.

LSU, the reigning national champion, sits at No. 2, while Arkansas, Florida and Oregon State round out the top 5.

After the SEC, the ACC has the second-most teams ranked with 6 representatives.

LSU last season went 54-17 including 19-10 in the SEC as it won the College World Series. It was just the second team ranked No. 1 in the preseason to win the national title. The Tigers return All-American 3rd baseman Tommy White and LSU has arguably the deepest pitching staff in the nation, Baseball America noted.

As for Arkansas, which is ranked No. 3, the BA staff referenced the Razorbacks’ transfer portal work and added key newcomers in shortstop Wehiwa Alloy and left-hander Mason Molina.

Florida is ranked No. 4 to start the season, and its key players to watch are lefthander/first baseman Jac Caglianone, a Golden Spikes finalist last season, and left-hander Cade Fisher a converted reliever to Friday night starter.
