Brian Kelly met with reporters late Sunday night after LSU’s 45-24 loss to Florida State in Orlando.

Kelly indicated LSU got ahead of itself as it prepared for this game. Coming off of a season in-which LSU won the SEC West and was a preseason top 5 team, Kelly said the Tigers were too confident going into this game.

“For some reason, we thought we were somebody else,” Kelly said. “That we were the 2-time national champion Georgia Bulldogs or something. I don’t know what we thought, but we were mistaken.”

It was a tough game for LSU, who held a 17-14 lead going into halftime. However, Florida State dominated the 2nd half on both sides of the ball. LSU rushed for just 8 yards after the break.

The loss puts LSU in a difficult position as it hopes to reach the College Football Playoff this season. The Tigers failed to get their last year after losing to Florida State and Texas A&M in the regular season and then to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

LSU has now last 3 of its last 4 games dating back to the end of last season.

The Tigers will host Grambling State in their home-opener in Week 2.
