Brian Kelly comments on SEC's memo regarding fake injuries
Brian Kelly met with reporters on Monday afternoon in Baton Rouge ahead of LSU’s clash will Alabama in Week 11.
Kelly was asked about numerous topics, with one being the trend of SEC programs feigning injuries in order to gain an advantage.
Late last week, SEC commission Greg Sankey sent out a memo mandating that the practice be brought to a halt. Sankey threatened stiff penalties, including fines and suspensions, for multi-time offenders.
On Monday, Kelly was asked about the memo and about the noticeable increase in feigned injuries that has been observed in 2024. Kelly said he supported Sankey’s mandate and called the trend “nonsense.”
Kelly on SEC memo on fake injuries: I thought the memo was timely. It’s clear that this nonsense, which was a word used, needs to stop. It’s silly. The game doesn’t need to get to a level that you use that as a way to slow down the game one way or another. #LSU

Sankey’s crackdown appears to have worked, at least for the time-being. There were no high-profile instances of feigned injuries in any SEC game this past weekend — although the league office’s process of validating legitimate injuries from Week 10 may not be officially complete as of publication.
Kelly and LSU will certainly be under the microscope as the Tigers host Alabama in a top-15 showdown on Saturday. Both programs are still in the hunt for an at-large berth in the College Football Playoff.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
