Brian Kelly spotlighted John Emery as a bright spot from LSU’s otherwise difficult 38-23 loss at Texas A&M on Saturday.
Emery had 9 carries for 55 yards, finding the end zone 3 times. He added 3 catchesfor 11 yards. A week ago against UAB, he had 9 carries for 49 yards and a score, but lost 2 fumbles, one at the Blazers 8 and another at their 28, to kill promising Tigers drives.
However, Kelly was pleased that his running back protected the ball much better against the Aggies, albeit in a losing cause.
“He needed it for himself. Obviously he took it hard the week before not taking care of the football,” Kelly said during his press conference on Sunday. “It was a really nice way to respond to some adversity.”
For the season, Emery has 66 carries for 324 yards and 5 touchdowns. He has also caught the ball 11 times for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns.
LSU next faces Georgia in the SEC Championship on Dec. 3, a 4 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS. It’s a rematch of 2019, where the Tigers routed the Bulldogs en route to the national championship and a 15-0 season.
