Brian Kelly gives update on DJ Chester's preseason camp
The LSU Tigers have dealt with some injury issues ahead of the 2024 season, and among the players who have been affected is redshirt offensive lineman DJ Chester, who was sent home from practice with an illness on Saturday.
This comes at the same time that a “stomach bug” has been going around within the position group. Head coach Brian Kelly offered an update of Chester’s status as Week 1 is just about to get into full swing for the Bayou Bengals and how he’s continuing to progress.
“I think he’s gone through those phases of a natural development,” Kelly said on Wednesday. “He’s not ready for the NFL or first-team All-SEC. What DJ has really done a much better job on is handle the consistency factor. The ability to stack days together.”
Chester stands as one of LSU’s most exciting additions this year, quite literally front and center within the offensive line. Among the most impressive of those qualities is his agility with a 6-foot-4, 300-pound frame.
Chester brings a lot to the table as a redshirt freshman preparing to replace two-year starter Charles Turner in arguably the most important position to the offensive side of the ball in the sport. It will be interesting to watch how he fulfills the expectations within the coming week.
Unless my memory fails me, I thought Turner was a 3 year starting center?
Two years. He made you forget Liam Shanahan.
