Brian Kelly has zeroed in on his defensive line coach hire, as he will pluck a coach from out west to lead the LSU run defense.

The news comes from Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, who reported that Kelly would hire USC defensive line coach Jamar Cain to become LSU’s new D-line coach/run game coordinator. Cain spent the past 2 seasons at Oklahoma, where the Sooners ranked third and first in the Big 12 in sacks.

Shea Dixon of 247Sports also reported that LSU has reached an agreement with Cain to be the new DL coach/run game coordinator, sources confirmed.

It’s the second job for Cain in the last month, as he went with Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to Southern Cal, and now Kelly has plucked him from the Trojans. Cain, one of the top recruiters in the country has ties to the West Coast, has previously coached at North Dakota State, Fresno State and Arizona State.

Cain was thought to be among the coaches who could stay on Brent Venables’ staff at Oklahoma, Sooners Wire reported, but he’s obviously in high demand by multiple coaches.
