Notre Dame coach says Irish will use two QBs in bowl game
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is giving reporters a refrain that will sound very familiar to LSU fans. The Fighting Irish will use two quarterbacks in the Music City Bowl against LSU on Dec. 30, Kelly said in his press conference on Monday.
Everett Golson, who led the Irish to the BCS title game against Alabama in the 2012 season, struggled late in the year. He finished with 14 interceptions and lost eight fumbles, getting benched in Notre Dame’s season-ending 49-14 loss to Southern Cal. Sophomore Malik Zaire came in for Golson in that game, going 9-for-20 and leading two scoring drives.
“Both have skill sets that are a little bit different that we’ll use in the game,” Kelly said to the assembled media. “We’ll go with their strengths and call upon those strengths in the game. I feel very confident I can manage both of them.”

LSU coach Les Miles told reporters something similar in his Monday press conference, saying that quarterback is one of several positions the LSU staff is evaluating. Anthony Jennings has been the starter for the majority of the season, while fans have pined for freshman Brandon Harris.
