Brian Kelly praises quarterback play, speaks on blanking New Mexico
Brian Kelly addressed the media following LSU’s 38-0 blanking of New Mexico.
The Tigers took care of business when they needed to, and Kelly’s words reflected that. He spoke on what could have been better, updated the media on Jayden Daniels and declared an important Tiger out for at least 3 weeks.
Major Burns, the Tiger in question, has been cleared to play but needs rest, Kelly said.
Major Burns is out 3-6 weeks with a neck injury, Brian Kelly said. He’s been cleared by doctors, but just needs rest.
Tough news for the #LSU safety spot. The good news is Arkansas transfer Joe Foucha makes his debut next week. He started a ton at safety for the Razorbacks.

Sticking with injuries, Kelly updated the status of starting quarterback Jayden Daniels and praised his abilities before exiting the game early.
Brian Kelly said Jayden Daniels could have went back into the game after exiting with a back injury, but said it wasn’t needed with a 24-0 lead at that point.

Brian Kelly on Jayden Daniels accuracy, decision making:
“We made a coaching point of fast feet, slow decision making. It helped him a lot”#LSU

Garrett Nussmeier had to come in to finish the game and he did well in Daniels’ wake. The backup completed 9 of 10 passes for 135 yards and 1 touchdown.
Brian Kelly says Garrett Nussmeier taking time, making good decisions and taking what the defense gives him gives LSU “another really fine quarterback.”

Here’s more from Kelly’s postgame press conference:
“They just simply had a different interpretation,” Brian Kelly says of referees’ blindside block call on the Jack Bech punt return TD.
“I told them, ‘If you take that block out of football, there won’t be punt returns.’” But says arguing it just became beating a dead horse.

Brian Kelly says this defense can still play better.
That’s a scary thought, after blanking New Mexico and basically shutting down the #MissSt Air Raid#LSU

Brian Kelly says the #LSU staff has confidence in guys stepping in to fill in for injured or missing teammates.
& that that only increased confidence.
“I think they feel the trust from us, & I think that gives them confidence that they can go in there & play at a high level.”
