Brian Kelly wants his quarterback to be more “prudent” with the hits he opens himself up to in games going forward.

The Tigers lost to Florida State on Sunday, 45-24. When he met with reporters on Thursday, LSU head coach Brian Kelly was asked about the play of his star quarterback Jayden Daniels, specifically regarding the hits that Daniels took on Sunday.

“I think he needs to be a bit smarter in the things that he does,” Kelly said. “We don’t want him to be anybody else but Jayden, but I think that he can be a bit more prudent in some of the decisions he makes.”

Daniels attempted to leap over a pile of players in the first quarter and was met by Florida State LB Tatum Bethune in the air. He was thrown to the ground but got back up relatively quickly.

“He’s always run that way, so we’re not gonna change him too much,” Kelly said. “Trying to jump over the pile, I think that we can tamp that down a bit.”

Daniels finished with 346 passing yards, 64 rushing yards, and one touchdown on Sunday. His Tigers are set to take on Grambling this Saturday in Death Valley.
