LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was one of the biggest surprises of the NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Edwards-Helaire with the last pick in the first round. It was a surprise not because CEH isn’t worth a first-round pick; most just projected Georgia running back D’Andre Swift to be the first back off the board.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has long been known as an offensive innovator, and he has to be salivating watching Edwards-Helaire’s film. Following the Chiefs decision to draft Edwards-Helaire, a report surfaced that Reid thought CEH was better than former Eagles star Brian Westbrook.

Well, Westbrook didn’t take the comments too well, and he went on FOX Sports to explain his beef.

“I get this message on Friday morning that Andy Reid said that this kid that hasn’t played a down in the NFL is better than me already,” Westbrook said. “It took me years to perfect my game, and it took me years to get better at my craft. And this young kid that hasn’t played a down in the NFL is better than me already. It’s baffling.”

Westbrook said Reid apologized for his comment; however, what Reid could have meant was that Edwards-Helaire may have a higher ceiling than Westbrook, not that he’s already better.

The former Eagles star was a force in every way possible in Reid’s offense for 9 years. He racked up 6,335 rushing yards and 41 rushing touchdowns. He also recorded 442 catches for 3,940 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air.

Edwards-Helaire is the total package at the position like Westbrook, but let’s not get carried away. Westbrook was a force in the NFL, but although CEH has a lot of live up to in the comparison, he’s more than talented enough to accomplish that.
