With 2 weeks left in the regular season, the SEC Championship Game matchup is already set.

On the first Saturday in December, the LSU Tigers will take on the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs with a conference championship on the line.

But, as ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum noted on SportsCenter on Sunday morning, the Tigers will also be playing for a whole lot more, provided they win their 2 remaining regular-season games.

Finebaum said that should LSU win out and beat Georgia in Atlanta, there’s no way the College Football Playoff committee could leave Brian Kelly’s squad outside the top 4:

“Mark it down — they will be in the Playoff, because they are the SEC champion, which matters a great deal considering the reputation of the SEC. Also, beating Georgia would count as the biggest win of the year in college football on one of the biggest, if not the biggest, stage, and I think that would be the difference.

“Now, that also opens the door for Tennessee, because Georgia would automatically get in. Remember last year, Georgia was in the exact same position. They lost to Alabama. They got in. The same thing would happen this year should they lose to LSU.”

Of course, winning out and beating Georgia is a monumental task. Suffering a third loss, even a narrow one to the Bulldogs, would almost certainly knock the Tigers out of Playoff contention.

There’s a lot left to play for moving forward for LSU, though!
