Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage has some advice for the people conducting LSU’s coaching search.

Travis’ suggestion that the Tigers should bypass their current interim coach and hire Alabama’s offensive coordinator is probably based on Kiffin’s offensive prowess, something LSU has been lacking for several years.

Though Orgeron has drummed up public support and revitalized the program since taking over on Sept. 25, the Tigers’ 10-0 loss to Alabama last Saturday probably damaged his chances of getting the full-time job. LSU’s offense managed just 125 yards in the game, further highlighting the need for a bright offensive mind in Baton Rouge.

Kiffin certainly fits the bill, having molded a traditional power offense into a spread attack that ranks 15th nationally in scoring even with a true freshman at quarterback. Orgeron was the team’s defensive line coach before being promoted to interim.

Kiffin has been connected to several jobs — most notably at Fresno State — but a move to LSU would be one of the juiciest coaching hires in some time.
