Clyde Edwards-Helaire was a huge part of the LSU Tigers’ 2019 national championship run. Then, he was scooped up by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, one of many Tigers taken in that round.

As a rookie in 2020, Edwards-Helaire fared pretty well, rushing for 803 yards and 4 touchdowns and adding 297 yards and 1 score as a receiver.

Bigger things are expected from him this fall, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that Edwards-Helaire’s preseason might be over. Per Rapoport, the former Tiger is dealing with a minor ankle sprain:

“It does not seem to be that serious at all,” Rapoport said. “Not a high ankle sprain, according to coach Andy Reid. It would have been on the inside of his ankle. They’re going to get it checked out and he’s going to undergo tests today, but of course, the only real thing, the only fact that matters right now is is he going to be ready for Week 1? Are we going to see him on the field when the season actually begins. Pending the results of some of these tests, he really should be OK.”

The Chiefs open the 2021 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12, against the Cleveland Browns.
