There’s perhaps no head coach in college football having more fun recruiting than LSU’s Ed Orgeron.

And what’s not to like? When Orgeron meets with recruits and their families, it’s not just a conversation about football. The LSU coach gave a breakdown of what his recruiting visits are like during SEC Championship Game media day on Friday.

“I enjoy recruiting in Louisiana,” Orgeron told the media. “I’m going to be in 18-22 homes next week. So that means about 18-22 gumbos. It’s going to be great. It’s kind of a party when I get there, it’s kind of a festivity. At other schools, I’ve had to go recruit, talk to their mom and dad and bring everybody. But what I’m doing now is the aunts, the uncles, the grandmas, they have a party, we eat, we laugh, we joke together. It’s just like being a part of a big family.”

Orgeron has been successful in his recruiting efforts, as he’s developed LSU into the No. 2 team in the country. The Tigers have won their first 12 games of the season and are poised to make their first appearance in the College Football Playoff.

First, LSU will take on Georgia in the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on CBS.
