Coming off a loss to Auburn while Alabama looms following the bye week, the mood of the LSU locker room is a topic of discussion this week.
“It’s something I’m constantly talking to our players about, what I tell them, ‘You earn the right to play on the practice field.’ And I know a lot of freshmen have played for us and some of those played very well, you know, you look at, Arik Gilbert and BJ Ojalari from Atlanta, an outstanding player for us, TJ had an outstanding game,” coach Ed Orgeron said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “So we got some guys that have played very well now we got some young guys that have to learn how to play with you earn your right to play.”
Starting QB Myles Brennan continues to rehab from his abdomen injury suffered against Missouri on Oct. 10.
“He didn’t throw with the team on Monday, he threw on his own, he will practice for the first time with us today… he won’t be in full gear, we’ll see how far he can go,” Orgeron said.
LSU is on a bye this week and will have time to continue to rest Brennan, if needed, and to allow freshmen quarterbacks T.J. Finley and Max Johnson every opportunity to compete in practice before the undefeated Crimson Tide come to town.
Orgeron noted that his former roommate, Tommy Tuberville, won a U.S. Senate race on Tuesday. Has Orgeron ever thought about running?
“No I’ve never thought about it,” Orgeron said. “I’m so happy for him, Tommy was a great coach, got me from Arkansas to Miami, we always knew he would be a politician, I think he will do a great job.”
Next week against Alabama, Orgeron added that Alabama has one of the best offensive lines he’s seen in a long time.
