The top recruiting class in the country took an early hit on National Signing Day.

LSU lost a five-star linebacker to Texas on Wednesday as Erick Fowler — a Manor, Texas, native — decided to stay in state. Fowler is rated as the No. 7 outside linebacker and No. 75 overall prospect in the Class of 2016, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

The 6-foot-1, 226-pound Fowler had committed to the Tigers back on June 13. He took an official visit to Texas on Jan. 15, one weekend before visiting Baton Rouge.

He chose the Longhorns over other notable offers from Alabama, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M among others.
