LSU lost a promising young piece of its pass catching corp Thursday as former five-star receiver recruit Tyron Johnson announced his intentions to leave the football program.

The New Orleans native announced the decision via his Twitter account:

Before enrolling with the Tigers, Johnson was rated as the No. 1 prospect from Louisiana, the No. 5 receiver in the nation and the No. 27 recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings. Johnson chose LSU over offers from every elite SEC school, as well as Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas, among others.

Johnson saw limited action for the Tigers as a true freshman, catching nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns after registering stats in only four games last season. The freshman did most of his damage against Ole Miss, as he had five catches for 83 yards a score versus the Rebels.
