Former LSU assistant Joe Brady reaches decision on Saints’ vacancy, per report
Former LSU offensive assistant Joe Brady has reportedly decided on his coaching future.
The current Buffalo Bills assistant was in the running for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching job. The coach interviewed and was considered a finalist, but has now decided to remove himself from the running and stay in Buffalo, per a report from NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Brady originally came to Buffalo in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach. The assistant was elevated to the interim OC position in 2023 and received the permanent OC position ahead of the 2024 season. In Brady’s 1st full season as OC, the Bills are in the AFC Championship Game and are behind only the Detroit Lions in points per game.
Before his time in Buffalo, Brady was in Louisiana from 2017-19. The coach was with the Saints in 2017 and 2018 as an offensive assistant and then headed up to Baton Rouge in 2019 to take the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach job at LSU. Of course, the 2019 Tigers went on to have one of the best seasons in college football history, going undefeated and winning the national championship.
Due to Brady’s exceptional work with offenses in both college football and the NFL, the coach was a hot name during this hiring cycle. The Saints were a logical choice due to the team’s struggles on offense in 2023 and Brady’s familiarity with the team and the state.
However, Brady is 2 wins away from a Super Bowl ring, and the allure of accomplishing that feat clearly is more appealing than rebuilding a team mired in cap hell.
