The LSU Tigers look vastly different than the 2019 team that saw the field in New Orleans on a historic undefeated season that was capped off with a national title.

That much was evident when the Tigers fell 24-23 to the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night. While there have been mixed opinions surrounding transfer quarterback Jayden Daniels’ performance that does need to see some improvement, he still may have been among the bright spots.

Greg McElroy of ESPN is among those who saw some flashes within Daniels’ game that helped keep LSU in the mix in an otherwise sloppy contest.

“Jayden Daniels, I thought, did some nice things,” he said. “A little bit erratic in the pocket, still a little bit erratic as a thrower. For all intents and purposes, he was the best thing they had going for him offensively. The offensive line did not look like they were a cohesive group whatsoever. I didn’t think they ran the ball great… the scramble plays Jayden Daniels made, those were a big reason why LSU was in the game to begin with.”

Daniels was running for his life the majority of the game due to poor pass protection, though there were also times he was simply too quick to leave the pocket and there is no doubt he needs grow as a pure passer. He finished the contest 26-of-35 passing for 209 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

LSU will face Southern University up next on Sept. 10.
