DBU is back in business.

LSU safety Jamal Adams was selected No. 6 overall by the New York Jets in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. Adams is the first LSU DB taken in the first round since 2013, when San Francisco selected Eric Reid with the 18th pick.

Adams is the fifth Tiger DB taken in the first round this century.

Before Thursday, LSU hadn’t had a first-rounder at any position since 2014, when the New York Giants drafted Odell Beckham.

Throughout the draft process, Adams was frequently mentioned as being in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick.

At LSU’s pro day earlier this month, he told Saturday Down South that he wanted to make draft history by becoming the highest-pick safety ever. Sean Taylor and Eric Berry were taken No. 5 overall in 2004 and 2010, respectively. He just missed.

“Now that I’ve moved on from high school and college, I’m turning the page,” Adams told SDS. “I plan to be a Hall of Famer at the end of the day. That’s my main goal is to be a Hall of Famer and put on a yellow jacket. That’s my main goal, but as a rookie coming in I just want to earn the respect of my teammates and my coaches.”
