Ja’Marr Chase landed a 4-year, $30.8 million deal as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. GQ recently caught up with the former LSU standout to learn what he did with his first $1 million.
In the video interview, Chase says the first $65,000 went to a new car for his mom. It was an immediate need to address, as the air was not working in her Audi.
“She was crying like tears of joy so that was good to see. She made me start crying,” Chase said.
Chase also paid off approximately $100,000 remaining on his mom’s house.
“That’s officially her house. We own it,” Chase said, calling it a home for the whole family to gather.
Mom wasn’t the only family member Chase took care of. He gave $15,000 each to his 3 siblings.
Chase’s biggest rookie purchase was $300,000 for his dream car, a Rolls-Royce. In total, Chase says his first $1 million was $631,000 spent/gifted and the rest went into savings.
Chase recorded 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first season with the Cincinnati Bengals, winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and making the Pro Bowl. He’s certainly off to a strong start to landing another big contract down the line.
