Jayden Daniels’ role model for handling his emotions on the field was none other than “Joe Cool,” one of his father’s favorite players.

In an interview with ESPN’s Marty Smith, the LSU QB said his father, Jay Daniels, recommended legendary QB Joe Montana, who led  the San Francisco 49ers to 4 Super Bowl championships, as an example of controlling on-the-field poise and leadership.

Daniels used his father’s advice to achieve a Heisman Trophy-winning career at LSU after 3 seasons at Arizona State. Daniels threw for 3,812 yard and 40 TDs this season and rushed for 1,134 yards and another 10 TDs.

LSU finished 9-3 and will play Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Day. Daniels’ career included a 32-31 victory over Alabama and an SEC West title in 2022.

Daniels said advice from LSU coach Brian Kelly to not worry about the potential of making a mistake with helping him this season.

Daniels, who grew up in Southern California, said he also took motivation from the success of another talented running QB, Lamar Jackson, who became a star with the Baltimore Ravens.
