Former LSU AD Joe Alleva is responsible for hiring Ed Orgeron to run the Tigers’ football team and Will Wade to run the men’s basketball team.

It’s safe to say he only feels good about one of those hires, in retrospect.

In a very candid conversation with The Advocate, Alleva opened up about his decision to hire Wade and didn’t hold back. It’s clear Alleva blames Wade and considers him a big reason he’s no longer the AD:

“I got some bad recommendations on that guy,” Alleva said, though he did not elaborate. “My perception on why I’m not the athletic director there is because some people used the situation with Wade.

“I loved my experience at LSU. The only negative about my time at LSU is the way it ended. My 11 years there were great. I enjoyed every minute of them.”

Every minute, it seems, except the ones when he was dealing with the recent scandal caused by Wade.

Who would Alleva have hired if he could do it again? He didn’t say, but that would be an interesting question.
