Now that he has a vote, Joe Burrow’s opinion about future Heisman Trophy contenders carries some weight. The LSU QB who won the Heisman on Saturday night has already weighed in on his pick for 2020.

Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors reported what Burrow said of Ohio State QB Justin Fields: “Obviously Justin will be back next year, and I think he’ll win it next year.”

Fields finished third in this year’s voting, behind Burrow and Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma. Fields is likely the only member of the top six players voted on for this year’s award who’s returning to school next season. All of the others are eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Fields is also the betting favorite to win next year’s trophy, with 5/2 odds to win, according to CBS Sportsline. Other players likely in the mix along with Fields include Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, Alabama QB Mac Jones, Auburn QB Bo Nix and Southern Cal QB Kedon Slovis.

A transfer from Georgia, in his first year with the Buckeyes, Fields threw for 2,953 yards and 40 touchdowns this past regular season. His 40:1 touchdown to interception ratio is the best in college football. Fields also rushed for 471 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Fields and the No. 2 Buckeyes will take on No. 3 Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 28. No. 4 Oklahoma will take on No. 1 LSU in the Peach Bowl that same day.
