2-minute drill: Les Miles’ 100th win would be a big one

It’s been a decade since Les Miles came to Baton Rouge, and he’s been spoiling fans for 10 years. He took over a team loaded with Nick Saban recruits and led them to 11 wins in each of his first two years, and in Miles’ third season, when his own recruits were finally established, the Tigers won the BCS Championship game.

There have been a few relatively down years in Miles’ tenure, including one where LSU posted a losing SEC record, and some heartbreaking losses and questionable calls, but the coach has made good on LSU’s faith in him. He’s up to 99 wins just five games into his 10th season, already second in school history.

Miles’ 100th win, should it come tonight, would be quite the notch on his belt. LSU and Auburn have one of the fiercest rivalries in the SEC, so any game between the two is big. The circumstances surrounding LSU would make this win ever more monumental. Miles and his staff are ace recruiters, and they have a knack for turning their young talent into NFL players. They once again brought in a great freshman class for 2014, and they’re leaning on them as heavily as LSU ever has under Miles.

For this freshman-heavy team to go on the road and knock off Auburn, it would take on heck of a coaching performance. Not just schematically, but in the locker room as well. These freshmen have displayed plenty of confidence, but they’ve never experienced 87,000 fans screaming for the other team.

If Miles and his staff have gotten their young talent prepared enough to come out and shine, win No. 100 would be a sweet one.
