LSU has officially added 7 transfers to its already stacked roster for 2023, and it’s a group that includes 4 defensive linemen, 2 cornerbacks and a wide receiver, head coach Brian Kelly said in a news release on Friday.
One of those cornerbacks is from an unlikely place but also a pretty familiar place for Tigers fans, as junior-to-be Zy Alexander signed with LSU after starring down the road from Baton Rouge at Southeastern Louisiana.
Alexander will give Kelly a seasoned veteran in the secondary, just 1 from an FCS program that wouldn’t usually fit in with the plans for an SEC defense. But Alexander isn’t your typical FCS cornerback, either.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder from Loreauville, Louisiana, has been a star with the Lions the past few years and will try to transfer his talents to the big stage of the SEC. It will be a big step up in class for Alexander, even if he’s staying in the very same state.

He is a 2-time FCS All-American who also had offers from USC, Baylor, Miami and Michigan State. Alexander was also a 1st Team All-Southland Conference selection the past 2 seasons.
He appeared in 31 career games at Southeastern Louisiana, and made 97 tackles, 12 pass breakups and 9 interceptions.
LSU also added 2 of the nation’s top high school prospects from the Class of 2022 in wide receiver Aaron Anderson (Alabama) and cornerback Denver Harris (Texas A&M).
LSU strengthened its defensive line, too, luring Jordan Jefferson (West Virginia), Jalen Lee (Florida), Paris Shand (Arizona) and Bradyn Swinson (Oregon).
The group of transfers includes 1 senior, 4 juniors, a sophomore and a redshirt freshman.
