LSU announces 2024 radio crew: Doug Moreau to miss season, Tiger great to step in
LSU fans will miss a familiar voice on the radio this fall. The program announced Wednesday that Doug Moreau is stepping aside from his duties as color analyst to recover from a recent surgery.
Moreau was a standout Tiger tight end from 1963-65, earning All-American recognition in his final season. He played 4 seasons for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. From 1974-2009, Moreau served as an assistant district attorney, judge, and then district attorney in Baton Rouge.
Moreau has been part of the LSU Sports Radio and Television Network broadcast teams. Moreau has been LSU football’s radio color analyst since 1988.
“On behalf of all of us at LSU Athletics, we will truly miss having Doug on the air this season and wish him a speedy recovery,” LSU Deputy Athletics Director Clay Harris said in a program release. “We are looking forward to carrying on the tradition of following the action on Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium on the LSU Sports Radio Network.”
The radio lineup for 2024 will feature Voice of the Tigers Chris Blair, color analyst Jacob Hester and sideline reporter Gordy Rush.
Hester won a national championship playing fullback at LSU from 2004-07, earning All-SEC recognition. He wore No. 18 during the championship campaign. Hester’s voice is familiar to LSU football fans as the host of “Off the Bench” on 104.5 ESPN in Baton Rouge and “Off Campus” on SiriusXM College Football Radio. He is also a frequent contributor to SEC Radio and the SEC Network.
“My first memories of LSU Football are listening to Jim (Hawthorne) and Doug (Moreau) call LSU games when I was 10 years old, growing up in Shreveport,” Hester said via LSU. “I’ve always believed a home team radio broadcast is one of the greatest pageantries that we have in college football. It will truly be my honor to be able to sit in the booth and call games for the school I love so much.”
No. 13 LSU opens the season in Las Vegas, facing No. 23 USC on Sunday night.
My favorite jersey is my #18 Hester, right after is the #9 Burrow. It’s going to be great hearing Jacob calling games, raise a glass for the 3-1-Great!
Cool. Hester is definitely a favorite of LSU fans, myself included.
May Doug recover fully quickly in the name of Jesus!
But it will be great to hear Jacob on the call this season. My boys have gone to his football camp he hosts every spring for years, and my family has gotten to know his. They couldn’t have picked a better family man!
