LSU co-offensive coordinator Cortez Hankton is a candidate for a vacant NFL offensive coordinator position, according to a report.

Per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Atlanta Falcons have requested permission to interview Hankton for the role. The Falcons hired Raheem Morris as their head coach earlier this week.

Hankton was a big part of LSU’s offensive success this past season, serving as the program’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. He helped develop LSU star receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas over the past couple of seasons.

LSU’s previous offensive coordinator from last season, Mike Denbrock, has already departed for the same position at Notre Dame. Hankton was promoted to co-offensive coordinator earlier this month following Denbrock’s departure. Joe Sloan was also promoted into the offensive coordinator role.

Hankton, a Louisiana native, has been on LSU staff since Brian Kelly took over as head coach in 2022. He’s also worked at Georgia, Vanderbilt and Dartmouth during his coaching career. If he accepts this job with the Falcons, this would be his first coaching stint in the NFL.

The Atlanta Falcons hold the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and could be in the mix to select former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. There is no known timetable for the Falcons to make a hire for this position.
