LSU baseball defeated Kansas State 7-3 on Friday afternoon. The final play of the game, however, is what’s drawing the most attention.

The Tigers secured the win on a hitter’s clock violation. K-State’s Roberto Pena was called for the violation with the count at 1-2. The violation added a strike, effectively ending the game.

Here’s the play:

LSU was well on its way to a victory without the violation, but that’s still an interesting way for the game to end. The SEC has implemented new rules for the 2023 baseball season.

As for the game itself, it was a dominant performance for the Tigers. LSU scored 2 runs in the 6th and 4 runs in the 7th to take a commanding lead over the Wildcats. LSU’s lineup combined for 10 hits and 5 different players recorded an RBI.

On the mound, Paul Skenes was excellent. He pitched 6 solid innings, giving up just 1 earned run while striking out 11 K-State batters. Ty Floyd entered the game in the 7th inning and recorded a 9-out save. He allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 5 in his 3 innings of work.

LSU faces Iowa on Saturday.
