The LSU coaching search looks to be coming to an end, as Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Tigers are set to hire Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. An announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

The Tigers’ top candidate on the coaching search was reportedly Jimbo Fisher; however, he stayed at Texas A&M. The Tigers then made a huge run at former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. However, Riley turned down the position and later took the USC Trojans job.

Now, it appears that LSU is hiring Kelly away from Notre Dame, per Thamel’s report.

Mind you, Kelly was asked about other potential coaching positions just 8 days ago.

“No,” Kelly said. “I mean, look, Mike Tomlin had the best line, right? Unless the fairy godmother comes by with that $250 million check, my wife would want to take a look at that. I’d have to run it by her.”

Kelly is 92-39 at Notre Dame, and he’s a proven winner and big-time recruiter. He was previously named the nation’s 2-time Coach of the Year. It would be an interesting fit at LSU, as he’s coming into college football’s toughest division and conference.

Historically, Kelly’s teams haven’t fared well against SEC programs, specifically Alabama, during his tenure.
