As much as sports fans desperately want Covid to go away, it’s simply not going to happen just yet.

LSU fans were given a reminder of that Wednesday, with the news that all fans attending the LSU-UCLA game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Sept. 4 will be required to wear masks, WBRZ reported.

The decision comes as a result of health policies in Los Angeles County that were updated on Tuesday, mandating that starting Friday, August 20, masks will be required at large outdoor events, with football games falling under those standards.

The early September matchup will feature two big names in college football, but it will be a meeting between two teams coming off disappointing 2020 campaigns.

LSU, coming off a national championship season, finished just 5-5 a year ago, while UCLA was just 3-4, with the program still searching for the resurgence that many expected when Chip Kelly took the head coaching job prior to the 2018 season.

Better things are expected in Baton Rouge this season, however, as the Tigers were voted 16th in the preseason AP poll.

The LSU-UCLA game will air on Fox 8:30 p.m. EST on Sept. 4.
