LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron updated the status of injured running back Leonard Fournette during an appearance on SiriusXM College Sports Nation. The coach said Fournette is likely to miss his second consecutive game and third of the season after re-injuring his ankle against Auburn two weeks ago.
“I don’t think he’s going to play this week,” Orgeron said. “He ran around a little bit but I don’t think he’s ready. We are excited about Darrel Williams and Derrius Guice. We have two good running backs so we’re in good shape there.”
Williams and Guice each rushed for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns during LSU’s 42-7 win over Missouri in Orgeron’s interim debut last week.
The coach also dispelled any rumors of Fournette sitting out games in order to not risk his potential stock in next year’s NFL Draft.
“Leonard is a team guy and he wants to come back from injury,” Orgeron said. “It’s taken more time for him to heal than he wanted to but he definitely wants to come back this year and contribute to this football team. These are his brothers and he loves this team and he wants to win for the state of Louisiana.”
LSU is scheduled to play at Florida on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. EST.
