Leonard Fournette will not be attending the Heisman Trophy ceremony. And many of the LSU Tigers are not happy about it.

Fournette was not among the Heisman Trophy finalists, which were released on Monday night.

This year, only three finalists were invited to the Heisman ceremony at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York. The award will either go to Alabama running back Derrick Henry, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson or Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.

Several perceived contenders were not invited to New York, including Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Florida State running back Dalvin Cook, Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds and Fournette.

Fournette has rushed for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He is averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He averages 158.3 yards rushing per game, which leads the nation.

On Twitter, Fournette’s response was pretty simple. He simply tweeted an emoji with a frown on it.

Others were more outspoken. Head coach Les Miles echoed Fournette’s frown, but also told him he was proud to be his coach.

Backup quarterback Justin McMillan was shocked that Fournette didn’t get invited to New York.

LSU long snapper Reid Ferguson called it “mind boggling.”

And despite the Downtown Athletic Club’s snub, safety Donte’ Jackson still believes his teammate is the best player in the country.

After LSU’s final game of the season, a 19-7 victory over Texas A&M on Nov. 28, Fournette tweeted that his teammates had told him they believed he should be the Heisman winner.
