When Danny Etling was deciding where to go for college, he interacted with then-Wisconsin offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who was working for Bret Bielema’s staff.

However, before Etling could commit to the Badgers, Bielema left for Arkansas and Canada headed off to North Carolina State, so Etling chose Purdue instead.

Etling, now reunited with Canada at LSU, spoke on Tuesday about how close he was to choosing Wisconsin:

As Etling and the Tigers prepare for the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve against Louisville, the former Purdue quarterback will do so with the knowledge that he’ll soon be working with a coach who he thought highly of during his recruiting process.

Though Canada will remain with Pitt through the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28, he’ll likely take over at LSU as soon as the Tigers flip the calendar to 2017.
