LSU appears to be losing a former top recruit to the transfer portal. After the Tigers ended the regular season on a high note, defeating Oklahoma, quarterback Rickie Collins announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.

Collins was rated as a 4-star prospect out of Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, LA. The 247Sports Composite ranking had Collins as the No. 18 QB and the No. 14 prospect out of Louisiana in the 2023 class. Collins received interest from Florida State, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, and others before committing to his hometown team.

The QB was a redshirt freshman in 2024 and will have 3 years of eligibility remaining. Collins has played sparingly, sitting behind Jayden Daniels in 2023 and Garrett Nussmeier in 2024. Entering the ’24 campaign, Collins battled with AJ Swann for the backup role, and it was Swann who came in when Nussmeier got injured against Oklahoma.

Collins will end his LSU career having completed all 7 of his pass attempts for 38 yards. The dual-threat QB also rushed 7 times for 37 yards over 2 seasons.

With Collins transferring, that could be a sign that Nussmeier is set to return to Baton Rouge in 2025. If Nussmeier intended on entering the draft, one would think Collins would be in the mix to land the starting gig next season.

The portal will officially open on Dec. 9.
