Brian Kelly has settled on his new offensive play caller to replace Mike Denbrock, who left for Notre Dame, after there was a bit of a trial run during the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin.

QB coach Joe Sloan and WR coach Cortez Hankton will be co-offensive coordinators, the same role they had during the bowl game, and Sloan will be the primary play caller, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. This move leaves tight end coach as the remaining vacancy on LSU’s staff.

Before the bowl game, Kelly explained why he chose continuity, and said the players were excited about the move.

“I think it’s important that anytime you have vacancies that you evaluate the staff that you currently have. We had the No. 1 offense in the country,” Kelly said. “For me not to evaluate the staff for those kind of openings I think would be foolish. There’ll be a strong consideration for the coaches that are in leadership roles right now for that position.”
