LSU will host former Florida State defensive lineman Patrick Payton on a visit this week, according to a report.
That news was shared by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Friday afternoon. Payton is regarded as one of the very best defensive players in the transfer portal this offseason and would be a huge addition for the Tigers.
Payton is an edge rusher who has been one of the ACC’s most disruptive defensive lineman over the past couple of seasons. He was a big part of FSU’s 13-0 start in 2023 as he recorded 15 tackles for loss and 7 sacks opposite Jared Verse.
Like most other players on Florida State, Payton’s numbers took a bit of a dip in 2024. This fall, he recorded 11 tackles for loss and 4 sacks for a Seminoles team that went just 2-10 on the season.
Payton spent 4 years in Tallahassee and was a contributor on 3 different Florida State teams. He departs the program with 110 tackles, 32 tackles for loss and 16 sacks in his collegiate career. He’ll have 1 season of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
LSU has already earned 10 transfer commitments this offseason. The group currently ranks No. 3 nationally behind only Texas Tech and Ole Miss, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
