It has been a long journey for Clayton, a former Lutcher (Louisiana) standout, from the JUCO ranks to UTSA to LSU.

“I’m nothing without God. This has been a long journey for me and my entire support system, including my parents who are my back bone!” Clayton wrote in a note posted to social media. “They were with me from the beginning at JUCO, where I learned to never take anything for granted, and then to the next level in the SEC.

“Since I was 12 years old it was a dream of mine to take the field at Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night. That feeling running alongside my brothers will never be forgotten. I’d like to thank LSU Tiger fans for all of their support and coaches for giving me an opportunity to represent my state and wear the purple and gold for the second time.

“With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. Louisiana State University will always have a special place in my heart. No matter where the future takes me, LSU will always be home. Geaux Tigers!!”

Though he was listed as a wide receiver, Clayton’s contributions came on special teams. He provided steady hands on the punt return team for LSU over the past two seasons. He played in 25 games with the Tigers, logging 15  punt returns for 101 yards.

Clayton will try to join the small club of NFL players who earn roster spots as specialists.
