LSU’s Michael Divinity discusses opportunity to return to team for national championship

After a departure midway through the season for personal reasons, LSU LB Michael Divinity is back with the team ahead of Monday’s national championship with Clemson.
At a weekend media event, Divinity told Jacques Doucet of WAFB what it’s like to have the opportunity to play again.
“It’s a blessing to get the opportunity from Coach O and the coaching staff and my teammates telling me it’s a green go for me to play,” Divinity said. “I’ll have an equal role of anyone else on the team, on the team. Anytime I get the opportunity to get out there, I’m going to make the best of it, but within the scheme. I’m not going to reach and try to make plays when I’m not supposed to. I’m just going to make the plays that come to me.”
Before his departure, Divinity played in 5 games, with 23 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble.
Divinity is one of LSU’s best pass rushers, and his future with the team was in doubt when the undisclosed personal issue came up, and then was combined with an eligibility matter.
He told The Advocate, “I made bad decisions that had consequences,” he said. “I had to accept the consequences and better myself as a man and just accept with what came with it, move forward and stay positive about it. I could have mourned. I could have left. I stuck it out because I love this game.”
