Mason Taylor reflects on setting LSU TE receiving record
Mason Taylor recorded 8 catches for 77 yards to lead LSU in both categories during a 34-17 win over UCLA on Saturday, but those numbers were overshadowed by a much larger achievement.
Taylor became the Tigers’ all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end, as the junior out of Florida now has 999 receiving yards on 99 catches to his name (yes, you read that right). He already held the record for career catches by a tight end at the university.
He’s tacked on 5 touchdowns over 3 seasons with the Bayou Bengals, although Taylor’s most notable grab likely is his 2-point snag against Alabama in 2022 that sealed an overtime win.
Taylor had a chance to reflect on breaking the record following the team’s win over the Bruins.
“It means a lot, it’s definitely a goal of mine to come in and make an impact to a program that like this,” Taylor said. “But I just want to keep working and keep exceeding. I think that I’ve yet to reach my potential and as I do that I feel that we can reach our team goals.”
Taylor’s next chance to add to his tally will come when LSU hosts South Alabama at 7:45 ET on the SEC Network.
