John Emery Jr. is not returning to the field very soon following a ruling from the NCAA about his academic eligibility.

The NCAA denied his latest appear, according to Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, and now Emery’s attorney plans to pursue other options while the running back is ineligible. Emery’s academic standing has been discussed for several weeks with Ed Orgeron and the media.

He is a former 5-star recruit, who was expected to have a breakout year, but hasn’t played this season after he started 3 games last season and was expected to pair alongside Ty Davis-Price. Emery led all LSU backs with 14 catches last season, and was second in rushing with 75 carries for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns.
